DULCE LIGNUM
Montefiore Conca relives every year the Procession of the dead Christ.
On Good Friday, the inhabitants of Montefiore dress up the traditional clothes of the religious congregations of the village and accompany the dead Christ from Golgotha to the Holy Sepulchre.
This tradition has been renewed for centuries.
In fact, there are testimonies of processions with the dead Christ in order to preserve the town from pestilence already since the first half of 1700.
From a meditation by Don Luigi Giussani on the XIV station of the Via Crucis:
The threshold of the truth of sacrifice lies in the question:"God, hurried in my rescue". Moving the stone on the tomb of our empty actions begins here. The Resurrection begins with this aspect of our infinite impotence, which is beggarhood, this supreme recognition that God alone is powerful, and of supreme gratitude because He, who has begun our existence, wants to bring it to completion. Nothing is more expressive than the universal, Catholic, ecumenical communicability of a heart made new by the "yes" to Christ, by that hope in Him for which each of us daily resumes the search, desire, demand and sacrifice of purity. Always living a peace in the mortification continuously revived ".
